No Goggles
I do not require students to wear goggles in class.
I do require them to swim with their eyes open.
If students prefer to swim with goggles on that is fine with me, but at some point, when they are ready, we will have a class, or more, with them learning how to swim without goggles so that they are not dependent on them. This is an especially helpful skill for your child/ren to have if you accidently forget their goggles or their goggles break.
If your child is constantly taking their goggles off during class then that is one sign that it is time to learn how to swim without goggles.
If your child is scared to open their eyes under water without goggles, then share these students’ photos with them. I have students of all ages who CHOOSE to swim without goggles. Seeing other children swimming without goggles, and ENJOYING it could be just the kind of confidence boost your child needs to give it a try.
