Flippers / Fins

I’ve taught hundreds - thousands of students of all ages to swim over the course of my career. I’ve recently discovered how much flippers/fins help my students learn how to kick correctly. I wish I had discovered their value to swimming lessons years ago, but better late than never.

Kicking is one of the top things I have to help students learn to do correctly. It is a hard skill to learn CORRECTLY. It is time consuming and exhausting. It can still take time to learn how to kick correctly using flippers/fins, but I have found it reduces that learning curve and makes the instructional part of it easier for me to communicate to my students what they are doing correctly and what they are doing wrong that needs to be fixed.

I now require all students of all ages and ability to provide short, soft silicon flippers/fins as part of their swimming lesson supplies. Since requiring all students to bring their own flippers/fins to class, I haven’t found a single student who did not benefit from them. Their use is customized to each student’s age and ability, but all students, even 2-year-olds, benefit from flipper/fin use.

I do not use them in every class and I don’t even use them for the entire class, just when needed for as long as needed. All students will learn how to kick without flippers/fins…that’s the ultimate goal

If you do not provide flippers/fins for your student’s lessons then it will take more classes for them to learn the skills. I haven’t had a single parent unhappy with their students learning how to kick properly and build their leg muscles using flippers/fins in class.

I will continue to add photos to this section as time passes.
